The Toronto Metropolitan Association of Part-time Students (TMAPS) represents all continuing education, distance education and part-time degree undergraduate students at Toronto Metropolitan and provides its members with a broad range of advocacy, services and events. TMAPS is seeking to hire one individual to oversee and run the semi-annual by-election for the Board of Directors between September 4, 2026 to December 31st 2026.
This is a project-based position. The selected candidate must be available from as early as September 4, 2026 to conduct the by-election.
NOTE: The successful applicant is required to waive their right to be eligible for candidacy or supporting any candidate in elections of the current academic year.
Type of Work: Short-term contract
Compensation: $28 an hour
Hours: Roughly 50-60 hours collectively

End Date: December 31st 2026
Reports to: Internal Coordinator at TMAPS
Main duties:
Recognizing that the CRO’s functions embrace a broad range of roles and responsibilities, it is important to note that not all functions are contained within this posting. The CRO will work with full-time staff members to achieve many of these duties.
- Oversee the organization and operation of a democratic election for the five unfilled TMAPS Board of Director positions on TMU campus;
- Work withInternal Coordinator to conduct outreach and publicize the elections and ensure all pertinent information and forms related to the elections are developed;
- Coordinate the candidates; organize and conduct and Election QnA Forum for interested members;
- Hold an all candidates meeting prior to the by-election;
- Coordinate hiring, training and scheduling of three to six poll clerks as needed;
- Make rulings on all matters pertaining to the elections including complaints;
- Adjudicate and enforce all election bylaws and policies;
- Tally the ballots at the end of the elections and post the results;
- Work within the established budget for the elections; and
- Submit a detailed report to the TMAPS Board of Directors and general membership following the elections prior to December 17th 2026
Successful candidates will possess:
- Previous experience with running and organizing a democratic election, holding a position as a Chief Returning Officer or Deputy Returning Officer is an asset;
- Familiarity with the TMAPS by-laws and policy and students’ unions;
- Event and logistics planning experience;
- Able to lead a group, delegate tasks, and work independently but as part of a team;
- Self-motivated, able to meet time sensitive deadlines and work with minimal supervision;
- Hold conflict resolution skills and has demonstrated experience;
- A skilled communicator that works well with a diverse group; and
- Applicants should be impartial and must be eligible to work in Ontario.

REPORTING: This position reports to the Staff Relations Officer
HOURS: 8-24 hours per week
Wage: 30.95
SUMMARY: The Membership Organizer position is a front-line role supporting the TMAPS front desk and any other front-line space TMAPS administers. The Membership Organizer also supports internal operations, events, and outreach under the direction of the Staff Relations Officer, with accountabilities to the Internal Coordinator and the Events and Outreach Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Membership Organizer will staff the TMAPS Front Desk on in-person days and as required. This includes arranging the front desk and interacting with members, community members, and other inquiries.
- The Membership Organizer is designated to support events, outreach and programming. They assist the Events and Outreach Coordinator in coordinating all TMAPS outreach and events programming activities as directed by the Events and Outreach Coordinator, including the Class Representative & Volunteer Program.
- The Membership Organizer is designated to the front desk and internal operations. They support the Internal Coordinator with coordinating the proper running of TMAPS’s central office and to provide services in a professional, efficient and student-focused manner as directed by the Internal Coordinator.
- The Membership Organizer supports the Internal Coordinator with general intake and information provisions to members regarding TMAPS membership, programs, campaigns and services in a timely and efficient manner and refers more substantial inquiries and complaints to the Executive or Staff member as directed by the Staff Relations Officer or Internal Coordinator.
- In collaboration with the Communications & Campaign Coordinator and with the direction of the Internal Coordinator, drafts promotional materials to create awareness of TMAPS front desk services.
- Maintains a regularly updated transition document related to their job duties.
- Participates in outreach, class talks and opportunities to engage with the membership as required.
- Assists with the implementation and promotion of events, campaigns and services ofTMAPS and those offered or organized by the Canadian Federation of Students.
- Assists with the training of the Executive and Board of Directors to ensure consistency in internal operations.
- Shall be a Privacy Officer of TMAPS.
- Assists other members of the staff and elected officers in various projects as assigned by the Staff Relations Officer.
- Other reasonable and ancillary duties as assigned by the Staff Relations Officer in respect of the Collective Agreement.
Successful candidates will ideally possess:
TMAPS members and TMU students will be given priority, but all candidates will be given an equitable opportunity to apply for this role
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- The ability to multitask and accomplish many goals simultaneously, while under pressure
- Experience working on member-driven campaigns within a students’ union and familiarity with the Canadian students’ movement
- Experience planning and executing a diversity of events and outreach initiatives
- Knowledge of anti-oppressive practice and frameworks of equity.
- Experience working in an office environment ,knowledgeable on the systems and resources necessary to allow for the efficient operation of the office
- Familiarity with TMAPS and its operations, and knowledge of current on-campus issues, is an asset
- Superior oral and written communication, including experience in a member-driven or front-line capacity
- The ability to be self-motivated and work independently
- An understanding of the dynamics and diversity of an urban university
- Relevant work experience in either an events and outreach-related position, an operations-related position, and/or a post-secondary institution is an asset.
- Due to the nature of this role, successful candidates are expected to take on duties in person as required
