Empowering Every Cycle. Period.

Accessing menstrual products is a human right. The Period Project ensures a stigma-free, safe and supportive space where any TMAPS member can access:
- Free Period Products: With 1 in 7 people in Canada claiming period poverty* it is vitally important that students can access the products they need, when they need them. Our Period Bank allows members to discretely access menstrual products anytime they need via prescheduled appointments.
- Health Education: Menstruation is a natural biological function, and it is important to understand and address the stigmas surrounding it. The Period Project provides safe and sustainable products, as well as workshops and events year round. Visit our Events Calendar to keep up to date.
Period Poverty is a lack of available, accessible and/or appropriate menstrual supplies and education, due to financial constraints and/or period stigmas.

Why Product Choice Matters

A 2024 study published in ScienceDirect detected measurable levels of 16 metal(loid)s, including lead, cadmium, and arsenic, in a range of commercially available tampons (Shearston et al., 2024). The products tested included several of the most widely available brands in the United States, many of which dominate the menstrual product market. For many consumers, limited product availability and affordability restrict the ability to choose alternatives, potentially contributing to continued exposure to these metals. This study highlights the need for greater product transparency and increased access to a broader range of safe, affordable menstrual products.
