Positions Available and Nominations

Responsibilities of the Executive Committee:
The President, Vice-President Equity & Campaigns, Vice-President Events & Outreach, Vice-President Academic and Vice-President Services & Finance must work a minimum of fifteen (15) to twenty-five (25) hours per week either in the office, undertaking outreach, at sanctioned meetings, or at events of the union.
The five (5) Executive positions receive honorarium of $23 per hour (tied to the Consumer Price Index as of May 1, 2019), plus benefits, to fulfil their respective position requirements as long as the minimum hours have been met (see Policy Manual on Executive Honoraria). Each Executive Officer may be entitled to up to forty (40) hours per week on which Orientation activities or Canadian Federation of Students meetings fall. Such entitlement may not exceed six (6) weeks for any Executive Member per fiscal year.

Key Duties
Serve as Directors and Officers of TMAPS under the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act; Carry out all responsibilities and duties of the Board of Directors, in addition to: Supervise the hiring and dismissal of full-time and part-time staff, and negotiate the Collective Agreements; Negotiate, review and execute contracts related to management and operations of TMAPS; Be responsible for all matters relating to labor relations, staffing, and any other legal obligations required as the Employer or Officers of the Corporations in the Province of Ontario or Municipality of Toronto.
Eligibility:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a Full TMAPS Member in Good Standing. Some exceptions apply. Review full eligibility here.
- Gather a minimum of five (5) signatures from current TMAPS members who support your running for candidacy. Some exceptions apply. Review full eligibility here.
- Attach photos of your five (5) nominators holding their TMU student ID card near their face when submitting your nomination form OR have them send it directly to our Chief Returning Officer at elections@tmaps.ca indicating who they are nominating. This is to avoid the risk of fraudulent candidacies.
- Complete the full nomination form corresponding to the role and email (see below) it to our Chief Returning Officer at elections@tmaps.ca with the subject: “Nomination Package” – (Role Name) – (Your Full Name)
Board of Executive Members
President
The President is the chief spokesperson of TMAPS. They are responsible for the overall vision of the organization and making sure the Board, Executive and staff are resourced to make that vision happen.

Vice-President Services & Finance
The VP Services & Finance is responsible for the financial management of TMAPS and the delivery of services. They also chair the Bursary Committee and Finance Committee.

Vice-President Governance and Academic Policy
The VP Academic is responsible for TMAPS governance and record keeping, as well as advocating in university committees such as the Senate and Chang School Council. They chair the Bylaws & Policy Committee.

Vice-President Campaigns & Equity
Ensure equity considerations are taken in all aspects of TMAPS’ work and Policies; Chair meeting of the Campaigns and Equity Committee; Coordinates with the Equity Service Centers in the Student Centre. Shall represent TMAPS when issues regarding discrimination and equity are raised in the Toronto Metropolitan University community and need to be addressed; Shall work with the President to develop education, political and equity-based campaigns on issues that affect Toronto Metropolitan University students, public services or equity and human rights internationally.

Vice-President Events and Outreach
The VP Events & Outreach is responsible for planning and events and coordinating volunteer programs with TMAPS. They are the chair of the Events Committee.

Board of Directors
Part-time Degree Directors (2)
“Part-time Director” refers to two (2) elected positions of the TMAPS Board, who are elected at either an Annual General Meeting or in the case of a By-election at a Semi-Annual General Meeting to sit as a voting Member of the Board of Directors.

Certificate Director (2)
“Certificate Director” refers to two (2) elected positions of the TMAPS Board, who are elected at either an Annual General Meeting or in the case of a By-election at a Semi-Annual General Meeting to sit as a voting member of the Board of Directors.

Members at Large Director (2)
“Member-At-Large” refers to two (2) elected positions of the TMAPS Board, who are elected at either an Annual General Meeting or in the case of a By-election at a Membership Meeting, to sit as a voting Member of the Board of Directors. A Member at Large is an officer whose duties and responsibilities are not fixed but instead vary according to the needs of the association and as directed by the other officers of the board.
