Ryerson All-Union Coalition statement of support for College Faculty
The Ryerson All-Union Coalition strongly supports the collective bargaining demands of Ontario college faculty currently on strike. These professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians are championing quality education and good jobs. It is regrettable that the College Employer Council has forced them into the difficult decision to go on strike.
As students and campus workers at Ryerson University we are grateful that Ontario public college faculty, and their union OPSEU, are insisting on the principles of job security, full-time work, and academic freedom. Respecting and advancing these principles is integral to creating a quality, fair and democratic post-secondary education system that will benefit all people living and working in Canada.
Faculty at George Brown and Centennial College are among the college workers on strike. This may impact Ryerson students and workers because of the joint programs offered by our institutions. We encourage students and campus workers at Ryerson to support the strikers by visiting their picket lines, refusing to do extra work usually performed by striking workers, and sending letters of support here: http://www.collegefaculty.org/letters_of_support
If you have questions about how supporting the strike may impact your work or school please contact your union or students’ union.
